Welcome to the 2017-18 Year! (Sep 2017 update)

Dear NEST+m chess families,
Welcome back and greetings from your Chess Committee.  We are excited for a great year ahead!  A few updates:

Ms. Izoria
Our former coach, Ms. Ana Izoria, left NEST+m over the summer to accept a job at another high school in the city.  We wish her the best of luck and she will be missed very much!  Fortunately she has agreed to serve as a coach for some of our major tournaments, so while we won't have the benefit of having her for morning chess, our tournament players will still see her throughout the year.

Morning Chess
Regarding the morning chess program, we are committed to continuing the program, but we will have some key differences for the Fall semester.  Ms. Izoria's loss is a major one, but our very own K-2 chess instructor, IM Giorgi Bakhtadze, has graciously agreed to help us twice a week.  We will offer morning chess on Mondays for tournament players and Tuesday morning chess for advanced tournament players (USCF rating >800).  Unfortunately at this time, we cannot offer instruction to unrated players, as the demand is simply overwhelming.  We are researching ways to offer such instruction in the future.

Grade Nationals
Please let me (gabe.tsuboyama@gmail.com) know if you plan to attend Grade Nationals in December in Orlando, FL.  We will be making arrangements for coaching and team rooms and need an accurate head count.

Susan Polgar Invitational in NYC
The Susan Polgar World Open will be held in NYC November 10-12.  Please see the links below for more information (and note the early bird registration expires 9/15/17). Please let me (gabe.tsuboyama@gmail.com) know if you plan to attend as we are considering having coaching at this tournament.

We Need Help from Volunteers!
In order that we may host our own tournaments and raise funding for our program, we need the help from our chess parents!  Please consider helping us sell food and merchandise at tournaments, helping with set up, and other opportunities throughout the year.  Stay tuned!

Best regards,
The NEST+m Chess Committee
